This is one of the most common questions I get asked and for good reason. Blow drying your hair can be very drying and damaging if not done correctly. You need the proper tools in order to achieve a sleek blowout with minimal damage so make sure you check out my post on heat protectants. As a professional stylist I use professional tools and I encourage my clients to do the same in order to maintain healthy hair at home. I’m going to share a few types of professional blow dryers that are designed to cause less damage to your hair.
1- Ceramic Blow Dryers
Ceramic blow dryers are a great choice because they dry hair faster than a traditional hair dryer. They emit far-infrared heat which allows your hair to dry from the inside out preserving moisture. It produces a more even, gentle heat so there’s less chance of burning and over drying. That also means less damage and breakage. It’s also less damaging for your scalp. Check out this professional ceramic blow dryer.

2- Ionic Blow Dryers
Ionic blow dryers do something pretty unique! They use advanced technology that releases negatively charged ions which break up water molecules into smaller particles. To put it simply the water evaporates quicker and your hair dries faster. About those ions… Negative ions are good for your hair. They neutralize static which reduces frizz. They also seal the hair cuticles making them smoother and shinier.

3- Tourmaline Blow Dryers
Tourmaline is a gemstone that emits negative ions. It’s one of the best blow dryers on the market as it combines the benefits of both ceramic and ionic dryers. You really can’t go wrong here. It cuts your blow dry time in half and preserves the hair’s natural moisture. Like ionic blow dryers it seals the cuticle preventing frizz and split ends. This is one of the top professional tourmaline blow dryers. It’s travel size and is priced quite reasonably.

*Keep in mind that a good blow dryer means nothing if you don’t use it properly. ALWAYS use a heat protectant when you blow dry or apply any method of heat to your hair. Keep the dryer a few inches away from your hair so that you don’t burn it and also from your scalp so that you don’t damage your hair follicles. Intense heat on your scalp can cause thinning and growth issues so be sure to take your time and use proper technique.
